Understanding the Basics

The trainer guided the children to see that every letter, no matter how big or small, is built from a few simple strokes. These include:

(a) Standing line – the upright stroke, seen in letters like l and t.

(b) Sleeping line – the flat base or top, found in letters such as E and F.

(c) Left curve and Right curve – giving round shapes in letters like C, D, and O.

(d) Slanting line – the diagonal strokes in letters such as A, K, and V.

(e) Dots and small strokes – the details in i, j, and other letters.

By combining these strokes, children practiced forming both capital and small letters. They were also taught about proportions:

(a) Capital letters should reach 100% height,

(b) Certain small letters (a, e, o) stay at 50% height,

(c) Some letters (g, p, y) drop 25% below the baseline.

This step-by-step approach ensures neatness, uniformity, and balance.
